Poor Pakistan
I am often rather down on Pakistan because of its corrupt ineffective government, its harbouring of Islamic terrorists and its battle on two fronts for Islamic militants and for the NATO USA forces. But one cannot help but feel sorry for the few people that just want to get on and live and enjoy a few runs and sixes. The latest in the daily debacle of this semi failed state is the ambushing of the Sri Lankan cricket team. Sri Lanka has its own terrorist problem which the government is commendably going all out on. The Tamils are being crushed brutally with hardly a peep of protest from the usually alarmist media. Pakistan on the other hand has chosen another approach, one which gets more and more people killed including visiting sports teams.
Until Pakistan’s government grows the political will to combat the terrorists there will never be business as usual. No cricket, no football, no polo, no golf, no governance. It will just be kleptocrats and dictators huddled in bunkers and bustled off to Oxford and Washington to pay school fees and beg for money. There will be no elections or country, there will be just disparate regions and areas in which known extremists can set up shop and attack neighbouring countries with impunity.
Investigators are desperately searching for links to Afghanistan, India and Sri Lanka hoping that they can find someone to share blame. The War on Terror, Mumbai, Tamil insurgents: the truth is Pakistan is just a shitty place to be and the wrong place to be playing any sport. Pakistan is a war zone, a failed state, a bunch of Neanderthals with nuclear weapons provided by overzealous realpolitik-ers from China. Above all other countries Masopher determines Pakistan to be the only true threat to peace in the world. North Korea, Russia even Iran none of these can benefit from using WMDs, only Russia has invaded a neighbouring state (Georgia) and that was in defense of a disputed territory and all of these countries are actively seeking honest meetings of opposites. Paksitan on the other hand attacks Afganistan and India, trains terrorists to fight in Chechneya, Africa, Asia,Saudi Arabia, the US and Europe.
I can hear the other monkeys chattering away on their typewriters. “Another Mossad RAW or CIA false flag operation”. “It was done to make us look bad”. “Hegemony from India”. Always the victim of outside forces and victim of circumstance; even as neighbours are set upon by bands of AK wielding militants; poor Pakistan.
