Its the start of the new decade! I am 100% more focused than I was at for the Y2K so I am pretty sure this is gonna be a great one. Masopher grows stronger and more people are adding to Masopher’s mind (whether they know it or not).

This is my list of what I’ll be talking about this year. I may talk about more I will not say less.  That should keep me busy for 1 article every fortnight. If you have any suggestion please pitch in and even better if you have any contributions please do write masopher@masopher.com

  1. NATO (its role as the global army and its role in Afghanistan and Eastern Europe)
  2. G20(too big too small, talking shop or nascent global government)
  3. Iran (So much trouble over the first modern empire, what would Gilgamesh do?)
  4. Crises in Africa (always a fertile field for corruption and developments, will a corporation actually outright buy a small country?)
  5. World cup (footie, 22 men kicking leather around)
  6. Global Economy (anti big)
  7. Rising China (which supported Khemer rouge against the Russians) stakeholder in the future.
  8. Afghanistan/Pakistan/Pashtunistan (always a favorite)
  9. President Obama great expectations vs Challenges (Stole that straight from CFR.org)
  10. Europe (A new EU…lets see what the hell is gonna happen now..)
  11. Game theory (the world reduced to numbers)
  12. Time and space psychology (My pet project which integrates work done by David Canter and Zimbardo)
  13. Nuclear weapons (Jung spoke on this, so did Einstein, and so will I)
  14. Israel (I love me some good ole Semitism)
  15. Russia (with love)
  16. Communism (with less love)
  17. Cyberwarfare (Until I manage to upgrade the site or steal it from the owner I’ll talk about how the internet is being used.)
  18. Buddhism (what I am)
  19. Religion(what I am not)
  20. Movies and Music (the cultural memes in them and what they mean)

Rafsanjani and Khatami are the faces of the Iran that I support. With Iran forcing itself into the nuclear club, Afghanistan to its right, Iraq to its left, and the United States all over both of them the Shiite-Persian country has a lot more to think about nowadays than just the Sunni Arabs that loom in the distance or the resentful Israelis still further a-field.

Jihadis, American right-wingers, Sunnis, Arabs, Jews all out for their pound of flesh but Iran’s biggest enemy is internal. With a deeply divided country with drug problems and ethnic divisions, the religious military and secular leaders are starting to run out of impetus after 30 years. The buzz of the anti-imperial victory of 1979 has almost died in the hearts of the faithful and most of the population is now too young to even remember what life was like under the Shah’s puppet government or the heady days under Khomeini and fighting the Iraqis. What Persians do know is an overly harsh “revolutionary” guard, sham elections, their money being send abroad to fund Lebanese and Palestinian wars and a drug problem so deep that the people of Tehran are discombobulated most of the time.

Because I am the same age as the Islamic republic and because I too struggle against a Post-imperially run society I feel a certain kinship with these people. However I believe in the triumph of progress over backward shows of force and playing catch up with incorrectly run enterprises. America and England are wrong and they have been wrong for centuries, but Iran makes itself more wrong for knowing better and still following their example.

Khatami and the “green revolution” symbolize hope for the
new decade. Irans people want to be modern and influential and in many ways they are. However the older conservatives in Persia want to cling onto past decades and bring those struggles (righteous or not) into the future. Its time to move on Iran.

Masopher presents: The Deep-ness

Masopher’s mind is not about me and a semi-notional character lamenting on the inevitable destruction of man. It is a website about freedom of thought and freedom of expression. So yes I say  whatever I feel like within reason but you can too.

I met this free thinker what seems like decades ago and she impressed me not with her ability to talk over everyone else or her firm and clear world view but with her pragmatism, keen listening and understanding skills. Despite her petite-ness she came across as somewhat of a big sister to her friends, an ear and a voice of wisdom. She was also slightly “touched” as are many of her pals; not in the way that little Vietnamese boys are touched by Gary Glitter but touched in the sense of slightly out of kilter with what mainstream wants her to be. A perfect addition to Masopher’s Mind. She and her pack of shy geniuses as well as you other wack jobs are always invited into The Mind to help make it great!

Ok, without further ado: The Deep-ness:

I personally don’t have many “set in stone views”, however if I did, it would be this; Prostitution should be legalised (with conditions and safeguards). This might offend a lot of people, I am not trying to be controversial I just believe that this would benefit most communities.
Three main criteria:

·         they must be healthy,

·         at least 18

·         and protected.

The benefits I could see with the legalisation of solicitation are hopefully reducing the number of sexual transmitted diseases which are happily hopping between many people from all walks of life. Whilst this wouldn’t eliminate all STIs , I believe it would reduce their proliferation.
Hopefully it would guarantee better health measures for the punter and the seller, with the lady and gentleman prostitutes getting regular check ups and ensuring that the correct protection is there from condoms to security.
Condoms to prevent the spread of sexual transmitted diseases as well as preventing unwanted “little people”.
Security to prevent prostitutes from suffering any physical harm… security not in a form of a pimp but just a plain old body guard who is paid a wage, and not a thief.
Many prostitutes are drug addicts and from what I have seen, it’s a reality. Men and women might continue to solicit illegally but maybe punters should have a clear choice of whom they were choosing to do the hanky panky with.
Child prostitutes are a reality and there will be people who still have desires towards young children. If there was a legal alternative that is clean and safe it might reduce the number of children being harmed in this manner. This is possibly the most important reason why I would advocate legalisation.
